I was selected as one of 20 runners worldwide for the Blue Planet Run (www.blueplanetrun.org), a run around the world focused on raising money and awareness to address water and sanitation challenges. The team, which hails from 13 countries, is running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through 16 countries in relay format. The run began at the UN on June 1 and ends Sept. 4 in NYC. As we run through villages and towns, there are major press events, meetings with heads of states, road shows, concerts, parallel running races, and walks for local participants. The run will be some sort of a documentary or reality show (I don’t know who will be airing it yet). Dow Chemical is the title sponsor of the event and has provided $10 million for the event and for water projects related to the run. The run aims to raise tens of millions of dollars in addition to Dow’s commitment.” W A graduate student at the Univ. of Virginia, Katy Ott was recently one of six students to receive a Faculty Senate Dissertation Year Fellowship to support her teaching and research.
