Looking Back, Looking ForwardListen in on talks by this year's Alumni Achievement Award winners, Col. Mark Odom ’87, Denise Schlener ’77, and Stephen Hauschka ’07. The 17th commander of the 75th Ranger Regiment, Odom shared stories of life in the military in a remarkable presentation that moved the audience to tears. An environmental studies major, Schlener has played a major role in the land conservation movement and gave listeners insight into its evolution. A place kicker for the Seattle Seahawks, Hauschka talked about his unorthodox path to professional football and offered the audience a behind-the-scenes look at the NFL. |

Our Changing ClimateBill McKibben—environmentalist, author, and Schumann Distinguished Scholar at Middlebury—gave alumni an update on the science and politics of climate change. He also told the story of how, in many ways, the fight against climate began at Middlebury. |

Cosmic GeometryVermont artist Sabra Field ’57 shared insights into creation of the mural—Cosmic Geometry—on the east exterior wall of Wright Theatre. Championed by Kate Lupo ’10 and commissioned by the committee on art in public places, the three-story mural illustrates the effects that spiraling, tiling, branching, and scaling have on nature.
