The 17th commander of the 75th Ranger Regiment, Col. Mark Odom ’87 shared stories of life in the military in a remarkable presentation that moved the audience to tears. A political science major, who played both baseball and football for Middlebury, Col. Odom is known as an exceptional military tactician. He has been deployed several times to Iraq and Afghanistan and received a Purple Heart for wounds inflicted by a roadside bomb in 2007. |

Confessions of a Pragmatic Radical EnvironmentalistAn environmental studies major at Middlebury, Denise Schlener ’77 has played a major role in the land conservation movement at the local, state, and national levels. Currently the vice president for strategic advancement at Island Press, she is the former national director at Land Trust Alliance. She also served in leadership roles at the Nature Conservancy, the Northern Forest Protection Fund, and the National Resources Council. |

An Insider's View on the National Football LeagueA place kicker for the Seattle Seahawks, Steve Hauschka ’07 shared his unorthodox path to professional football and offered the audience a behind-the-scenes look at the NFL. A neuroscience major with no football experience prior to Middlebury, Hauschka has also played for the Minnesota Vikings, Baltimore Ravens, Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, and Denver Broncos. This past season, he was 25/30 with a long of 52 yards and tied the Seahawks record for most field goals in a game—5. |
