What is a chapter?
A "chapter" is a city or region with a significant concentration of Middlebury alumni, parents, and friends. Chapters are recognized by the Alumni Office when the alumni within demonstrate a desire and commitment to connect with one another and the College.
The majority of our chapters are in the U.S., but we also have some in Asia and Europe. Some chapters--usually the larger ones--have presidents and formal leadership structures; others don't. It all depends on what the lead volunteer(s) prefer and what works best according to local circumstances.
The Alumni Office supports all of its sanctioned chapters, regardless of structure or size, in the same way: we provide leadership and event-planning training and advice, a page on our web site, and a Facebook group that enables locals to find and share announcements with one another.
If you're interested in becoming involved, here are the three initial steps you should take:
- Check the regions below to see if there is an active chapter (and Facebook group) near you.
- Click here to update your contact info to ensure that you hear about local Middlebury happenings.
- Click here to learn how to connect with your local Middlebury community group on Facebook.
If you want to learn more and/or are interested in activating your chapter, contact Associate Director of Alumni Relations, Mary Strife Cairns '94 at mcairns@middlebury.edu.
