Middlebury, VT—Hot music will warm a cold winter’s night on Saturday, February 15, when the Dick Forman Jazz Group plays an evening of sparkling, sophisticated mainstream jazz at the Mahaney Center for the Arts’ Concert Hall. The Group’s ballads, blues, be-bop, and swing are sure to set toes tapping.
Long a favorite of Vermont audiences, the Dick Forman Jazz Group (DFJG) features Affiliate Artist and Director of Jazz Activities Dick Forman on piano, accompanied by some of New England’s finest musicians: Paul Asbell, guitar; Michael Zsoldos, saxophone; Jim Daggs, bass; and Geza Carr, drums. While the performers have frequently played in different combinations over the past few years, this program will be a reunion for the quintet. The concert will be a chance to hear the results of new, spontaneous work by old friends. The group will play some of their favorite tunes, and will also explore some new ones.
This concert will be the first major jazz presentation with Middlebury College’s new Steinway grand piano, a gift of the Rothrock family in honor of Ron and Jessica Liebowitz. Forman calls the new piano “truly magical.” “Playing this incredible instrument is one of the highlights of my musical life. It lets me hear things and find things that I could only dream about.” The new piano and the reunion of great jazz talents will make this a memorable evening.
The concert by the Dick Forman Jazz Group will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2014, at 8:00 P.M., in the Concert Hall of Middlebury College’s Kevin P. Mahaney ’84 Center for the Arts. The Mahaney Center is located at 72 Porter Field Road in Middlebury, just off Route 30 south. Admission is free. Free parking is available.
