MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury College dance major Adriane Medina will present her senior independent work Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, at 8 p.m. in the Mahaney Center for the Arts Dance Theatre.
Entitled “Moments on a String,” Medina’s work consists of three pieces focusing on collaboration and integration. A self-choreographed solo, “waiting time,” features original music by Philippe Bronchtein ’10. Another solo performed by Medina, created in conjunction with Visiting Assistant Professor in Dance Tiffany Rhynard, delves into the fusion of tap and contemporary dance in a multimedia environment. The evening concludes with a group piece featuring dancers Olivia Claudio ’11, Jeremy Cline ’11, Sophie Levine ’10, Cat Miller ’11, and Simon Thomas-Train ’09. In creating this final work, Medina combined her love of teaching with her creative process. The result is an investigation of movement qualities and nuances in dancing style. According to The Middlebury Campus, Medina creates “a kaleidoscope of movement that bends and manipulates [dancers’] relationships with each other” generating “a contagious sense of energy and excitement.”
The concert also showcases a series of solos by Dance Program faculty – a solo choreographed and performed by Artist in Residence Leyya Tawil, Tiffany Rhynard's multimedia solo "Trash," and a solo created by Peter Schmitz, visiting New York City choreographer, for current Dance Program Chair Andrea Olsen with an original score by Vermont musician Michael Chorney.
The performance is sponsored by the Middlebury College Department of Theatre and Dance. The Mahaney Center for the Arts is located on South Main Street (Route 30). Tickets are $5 for general admission, $4 for senior citizens and children, and $3 for Middlebury College students.
