The Arts at Middlebury provide tremendous resources for cross-disciplinary exploration. Curricular Connections is a summary of the rich artistic resources that are here for students, faculty, and the surrounding community to enjoy. Here you will find an outline of arts and cultural events offered at the College, cross-referenced against relevant courses from Middlebury’s General Catalog.
Curricular Connections can help faculty and students identify events that may be a natural match. In the past, some faculty have chosen to select specific events and incorporate them into their syllabi. Some ways in which students can get involved include attending performances, viewing exhibitions, and meeting with performers for discussion or master classes.

“Among all the doings or activities that go on here are the arts, fine and performing. They each have their own specific being, but they also have contexts or connections to other things. One can achieve a lot considering the arts separately and formally, but they also bear consideration in their connections, to society, to history, to commerce, to science, to religion, to each other.
“Indeed it can be argued that one doesn’t fully understand these other things until or unless one looks also at and thinks about the arts, whose being both expresses and throws fresh light on the other things. It is on that premise, in that belief, we have suggested these connections between the arts and courses in the curriculum.”
