A magnificent tenor with dazzling top notes and astonishing vocal power, Yonghoon Lee took Middlebury by storm last summer in the Opera Company of Middlebury's production of Carmen. Winner of the 2003 Licia Albanese-Puccini International Vocal Competition and the New York district winner of the Metropolitan Opera competition, Lee is a passionate and engaging performer embarking on a major career.
For this recital, Lee is joined by pianist Ted Taylor, who is the regular accompanist for soprano Kathleen Battle and who has conducted at the New York City Opera.
This concert includes arias from Italian opera, as well as liltingly beautiful songs from Lee's native Korea. The audience has a chance to meet the artists at an intimate reception following the performance. The evening benefits the Opera Company of Middlebury, a new professional opera company that performs in Middlebury's Town Hall Theater.
"The tenor Yonghoon Lee sings Don Jose in a voice so enormous that it is hard to believe it emanates from a human being."
