Many renowned violinists (Mark Kaplan, Hillary Hahn, Gidon Kremer, Julia Fischer, Arabella Steinbacher) have played unaccompanied Bach at Middlebury, always including the monumental Chaconne from the second partita. Highly acclaimed rising star Alina Ibragimova plays the second partita—including the Chaconne—as well as the third partita and Bach’s first two sonatas. Artist Biography:
Alina Ibragimova, violin
Performing music from baroque to new commissions, Alina's recent engagements have included her BBC Proms debut with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Ligeti violin concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Edward Gardner at the Barbican, the televised opening of the MDR Musiksommer Festival, the Philharmonia, HR Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Vienna Chamber Orchestra and City of Birmingham Symphony, with conductors including Sir Charles Mackerras, Richard Hickox, Walter Weller, Osmo Vänskä, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Jac van Steen and Gianandrea Noseda.
As soloist/director Alina has performed with the Kremerata Baltica in Paris, Salzburg and Verbier, and has toured with the Britten Sinfonia and Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Alina has performed in recital and chamber music at the Wigmore Hall London, Musée du Louvre Paris, on NHK Television Japan, and at festivals including Salzburg, Verbier, City of London, Lockenhaus, Heimbach, and Aldeburgh.
Future engagements include the complete Beethoven violin sonatas at the Wigmore Hall and her Carnegie Hall debut with her regular recital partner Cédric Tiberghien.
Born in Russia in 1985, Alina is a former pupil of the Moscow Gnesin and Yehudi Menuhin schools, and the Royal College of Music London. Her teachers have included Natasha Boyarsky, Gordan Nikolitch, Christian Tetzlaff, and Adrian Butterfield for baroque and classical violin.
Alina records for Hyperion Records for whom she has released CDs of Hartmann, Roslavets and Szymanowski. Her recording of the Bach Sonatas and Partitas for solo violin will be released in October 2009.
Alina was a member of the BBC New Generation Artists Scheme 2005-7, a recipient of a 2008 Borletti-Buitoni Trust award, and winner of the Classical BRIT Award 2009 for Best Young British Performer. She performs on a 1738 Pietro Guarneri of Venice violin, kindly provided by Georg von Opel.
