Middlebury College has announced the hiring of Dain McKee as the school’s first Assistant Director of Athletic Communications. McKee comes to Middlebury from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he recently served as the school’s assistant sports information director.
“I’m honored to be selected as the College’s first full-time Assistant Director of Athletic Communications and to be able to cover such a deeply-rooted and highly-successful athletic tradition,” said McKee.
As the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, McKee will assist in the handling of all publicity for the school’s 31 varsity NCAA athletic teams. He will also aid in the management of all media requests, while also maintaining day-to-day operations of the office as well as the athletic department’s website.
McKee is no stranger to the profession or Division III, serving as the assistant sports information director numerous places, most recently for a two-year period at Case Western Reserve. He has also spent time at Kenyon College, The College of Wooster and Christopher Newport University (Va.). At all four institutions that sponsor between 19 and 24 athletic teams, he was the main contact for numerous varsity teams and helped manage all facets of sports information.
McKee has been a media relations staff member for over 30 NCAA Championship events spanning all three NCAA divisions, including NCAA Division III men’s and women’s soccer first and second rounds as well as the wrestling regional championship during the 2011-12 season at Case Western Reserve. Additionally, he served as a main contact for the 2012 University Athletic Association Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships as well as the 2013 UAA Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship meet.
A native of Ashland, Ohio, and a 2003 graduate of Ohio Northern University, McKee’s career in sports information began as a student assistant at ONU, where he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in sport management along with a full minor in communication arts with a concentration in public relations.
He is an active member of both the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Sports Information Directors Association (ECAC-SIDA) and is currently serving on the CoSIDA’s Goodwill Committee. In the past, he has also served on CoSIDA’s publications committee as a contest coordinator.
“I look forward to the opportunity to work together with the student-athletes, coaches, supporters and alumni of Panther athletics,” added McKee. “It goes without saying that my family and I are honored and excited to join the Middlebury community.”
