Merrill Named Equipment Manager

10/20/05 - Bryan Merrill has been hired as the Athletic Department's Equipment Manager at <?xml:namespace prefix = "st1" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Middlebury College. He replaces 19-year veteran Jerry Sodano, who left the College earlier in the month to pursue other interests in North Carolina.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Merrill was hired as a member of the buildings and grounds crew 19 years ago at Middlebury College. For the last 17 years, he has served as the Athletics Fields Crew Leader. He also spent two years as the school's landscaping supervisor.
"I was looking for a change and a different challenge, and this seemed like a great opportunity for me," said Merrill. "I've always been a big fan of college athletics, and have really enjoyed my time working on the fields."
In his previous position, Merrill was responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all of Middlebury's athletic fields. He and his crew also prepare most of Middlebury's indoor facilities for games and practices on a daily basis. During his 17 years, his fields have won awards and have been well-known as some of the top playing surfaces in the region.
Merrill also bettered himself by attending the Cornell Turf School on two different occasions, while also attending several other turf management seminars, including a week-long program in Florida.
As the equipment room manager, Merrill will be responsible for issuing and servicing equipment and uniforms for all 30 of Middlebury's varsity teams, as well as junior varsity squads.
"I'm looking forward to being a member of the athletics staff at Middlebury," said Merrill. "I already have good working relationships with the coaches and staff here, so I'm looking forward to a smooth transition into my new position."
