"I've enjoyed my time here at Middlebury, but my wife and I are looking forward to a warmer climate in North Carolina," said Sodano. "I will miss a lot of the people I've worked with over the years at Middlebury, and especially the landscape of Vermont."
Sodano arrived on campus in the fall of '87, hired as the equipment manager, a position he has held for almost 20 years. In his time at Middlebury, the equipment room has seen many changes, including the addition of several varsity teams, while moving into a new state-of-the-art facility in January of '99. During the construction of the facility, Sodano worked closely with the architects to ensure the new equipment room would be the best it could be.
As the equipment room manager, he has been responsible for issuing and servicing equipment and uniforms for all 30 of Middlebury's varsity teams, as well as junior varsity squads. Sodano has enjoyed good working relationships with the hundreds of athletes and dozens of coaches that he's been involved with over the years.
He has also made several advancements in the equipment room, including a very well-organized and user-friendly space for Middlebury's athletes. During his time, he also designed an air-filled jaw pad for football helmets which has been utilized by Riddell All American Equipment Manufacturing.
