Middlebury College has finished fourth in the 2010 Learfield Sports Director's Cup race. The Panthers earned their seventh consecutive top-five finish, including four second place honors. Williams won the cup, followed by Amherst and Washington Univ., while Tufts came in sixth place. Points for the cup are awarded based on excellence in NCAA Tournament play.

The New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) has announced its 2010 Spring All-Academic Selections. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached junior academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35.

The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Spring All-Sportsmanship Team for each spring sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship.

Middlebury College Athletics is excited to announce the arrival of video webcasts for the remainder of the basketball and hockey seasons. Games are expected to be webcast on a pay-per-view basis at $6/game. Men's hockey games will always include audio from WVTK, while audio for the other three sports will be picked up when available.

Middlebury recently celebrated "Girls Sports Day" on Sunday, January 24th in The Bubble and Natatorium on campus. Students from Middlebury's swimming, field hockey, lacrosse, soccer and softball teams participated, with 125 girl scouts from the surrounding area who were involved in the activities. The event took place over a four-hour span from 1:00-5:00 p.m. that afternoon.

Participants rotated through stations were they were taught the skills of that particular sport with Middlebury student-athletes. They were also able to spend some time in the pool with Middlebury swimmers.

Middlebury returns to action on December 30th when men's basketball team visits Rensselaer at 7:00 p.m. The women host W.P.I. on January 2nd, while the men host Hamilton on the 3rd at 4:00 p.m.

The men's hockey team hosts the annual Holiday Classic Tournament at the Chip Kenyon Arena on Saturday/Sunday, January 2nd and 3rd. Salve Regina battles Southern Maine at 1:00 p.m., while Middlebury hosts Babson at 4:00 p.m. The consolation and championship games are slated for January 3rd at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m.

The women host the Panther/Cardinal Classic on Sunday/Monday, January 3rd and 4th. The Panthers take on Elmira at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, while Plattsburgh meets Elmira at 1:00 p.m. The consolation and championship games are scheduled for Monday, January 4th at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m.

A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution.

The New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its Fall All-Sportsmanship Team for each fall sport sponsored by the conference. The All-Sportsmanship Team is composed of one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team for their positive contributions to sportsmanship. The student-athlete selected must be in good academic standing and a member of the team at the conclusion of the season in order to be eligible for selection.

Almost 300 Middlebury College students have returned to campus with the start of the fall sports season just around the corner. Practices are underway, with the season opening up on Saturday, September 12th. On that day, the men's and women's soccer teams, along with the field hockey team will host Tufts. Both golf teams will visit St. Lawrence that weekend, while the volleyball team is at the Potsdam Invitational. The tennis teams open the following weekend, while the football team will kickoff its season on September 26th at Bowdoin. The cross country teams officially open their season with the Panther Invitational on September 19th.
