The Panther women's basketball team opened up its season with a 65-47 loss to The College of N.J. at the Stevens Tournament in N.J. The Panthers led 27-26 at the half, but could not hold on as the Lions out-scored Middlebury 39-20 in the second session.

The Middlebury College women's squash team opened up its '08-'09 campaign with an 8-1 home win over Hamilton. The Panthers entered the match ranked 18th, while the Continentals were ranked 15th. The Middlebury women earned seven of their eight wins by 3-0 scores.

The Panther men's squash team earned a 6-3 win over Hamilton in their season-opener at home. The Panthers entered the match ranked 21st in the pre-season, while the Continentals were 18th. The win avenges a 6-3 loss at the hands of Hamilton a year ago.

The Middlebury College women's hockey team opened up its season with a 5-1 win at Williams. The Panthers outshot the Ephs 50-26 on the afternoon as they cruised to the win. Rookie Maggie Melberg (Woody Creek, Colo.) recorded two goals and one assist in her collegiate debut.

The Panther men's basketball team opened up its season with an impressive 60-59 win over Bloomsburg at the St. Michael's Classic. Senior Aaron Smith (W. Hartford, Conn.) went 8 of 12 from the floor for a team-high 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior Kevin Kelleher (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) and rookie Ryan Sharry (Braintree, Mass.) each scored eight, while junior Tim Edwards (Greenwich, Conn.) dished out assists and grabbed seven boards. The Panthers shot .448 from the floor on the night. The Panther bench outscored Bloomsburg 26-11 on the afternoon.

The Middlebury College field hockey team saw its season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Bowdoin in an NCAA Regional Final contest in Maine. The Panthers end their season with a solid 14-4 record, while defending NCAA Champion Bowdoin advances to the final four.

The Panther cross country teams were impressive at the NCAA New England Regional hosted by Williams on Saturday. The women captured the 49-team event to win the NCAA Regional and an automatic qualification to the NCAA's. The men's squad turned in one of their best performances in school history, finishing in sixth place in the 49-team race.

The Middlebury College men's soccer team has advanced to the NCAA Sectionals for the second straight season. The defending NCAA Champions did so by defeating Framingham State and Norwich in an NCAA Regional on campus. The Panthers will meet Carleton (Minn.) in a sectional game, while Johns Hopkins meets Stevens, the host school, in the other match-up on Saturday, November 22nd. The NCAA Sectional final will take place on Sunday with a trip to the final four on the line.
