MEN'S BASKETBALL OPENS WITH TWO WINS

The Panther men's basketball team opened up its season with an impressive 60-59 win over Bloomsburg at the St. Michael's Classic. Senior Aaron Smith (W. Hartford, Conn.) went 8 of 12 from the floor for a team-high 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Junior Kevin Kelleher (Belle Harbor, N.Y.) and rookie Ryan Sharry (Braintree, Mass.) each scored eight, while junior Tim Edwards (Greenwich, Conn.) dished out assists and grabbed seven boards. The Panthers shot .448 from the floor on the night. The Panther bench outscored Bloomsburg 26-11 on the afternoon.

The following day, the Panthers earned a 59-41 win over Norwich at the St. Michael's Classic Tournament. The Middlebury defense forced 24 turnovers in the game and used a balanced scoring attack en route to the victory. Senior Ben Rudin (Scarsdale, N.Y.) led the team with 12 points and five assists, Smith scored nine, while Edwards netted eight. Sophomore Andrew Locke (Seattle, Wash.) scored six in the game to go along with seven blocked shots and eight rebounds.
