Women's Tennis Competes At NEWITT

The Panther women's tennis team wrapped up its fall season at the newly-formatted NEWITT Tournament. Players were paired up with their teammates, playing two singles and a doubles match against their opponent to determine advancement. An "A" and "B" championship flight took place, as well as consolation brackets.

First-year players Alyssa Puccinelli (New York, N.Y.) and Alexandra Guynn (Chicago, Ill.) turned in the top performance, winning two contests before falling in the quarterfinals of the "B" flight. Sophomore Whitney Hanson (Wayne, Pa.) and rookie Hilary Cunningham (Greenlawn, N.Y.) advanced to the consolation semifinals before ending play with an injury.

In the "A" bracket, seniors Clare Burke (Summit, N.J.) and Chandra Kurien (Fairfield, Conn.) nearly defeated a duo from Williams that went on to win the bracket. Burke picked up an impressive singles win over her opponent as they Panthers dropped the contest 2-1.

Rookies Victoria Aiello (Milton, Mass.) and Anna Burke (Summit, N.J.) as well as seniors Elizabeth Stone (Cohasset, Mass.) and Elizabeth Emery (McLean, Va.) both advanced to the consolation finals, but were unable to play the match due to time constraints.
