The Middlebury men's doubles team of Andrew Thomson (W. Bloomfield, Mich.) and Andrew Lee (Eden Prairie, Minn.) have captured the ITA Small College National Championship. The duo qualified after winning the ITA New England Regional earlier this fall, competing in the eight-team bracket at the Copeland-Cox Tennis Center in Mobile, Alabama. Thomson/Lee defeated their opponents from Emory 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (5). The teams split the first two sets before a tiebreaker was needed to settle the championships. The two were trailing 4-5 in the tie-breaker, before coming back to pick up the victory. In their semifinal victory, Thomson/Lee earned a win with a lengthy tie-breaker in the second set, 6-3, 7-6 (11).

Winning the Division III crown earned Thomson/Lee the chance to compete in the "SuperBowl", featuring winners from the Junior College Division, Division II and NAIA. The duo defeated the former national junior college champions 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 before falling to the NAIA winners 4-6, 7-6, 4-6.

In singles play, Andrew Peters (Baltimore, Md.) advanced to the finals with a pair of 6-2, 6-2 wins over his opponents from Whitman and Claremont-Mudd Scripps. In the championship match, he was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by his opponent from Washington University.
