The Panther men's basketball will makes its third consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance when they host a regional on March 5th & 6th in Pepin Gym. The Panthers will take on Gordon on Friday at 6:00 p.m., followed by a game between Rhode Island College and Rutgers-Newark at 8:00. The winners meet on Saturday night at 7:00 in the regional final.
The 87th Middlebury College winter carnival is complete, with Middlebury finishing in third place overall with 741.5 points. Dartmouth won the event (846), followed by UVM (806) and UNH in fourth (734). The Panthers will return to action on March 10th-13th at the NCAA Championships in Colorado.
The Middlebury College men's swimming and diving team finished fourth overall at the 2010 NESCAC Championship hosted by Williams. The Ephs won the event with 1937 points, followed by Tufts (1452), Amherst (1352) and Middlebury (1029). The Panthers move up two spots from last year's finish, while breaking seven varsity records at the meet. Middlebury senior John Dillon (Wellesley, Mass.) was named the Swimmer of the Meet, while head coach Peter Solomon earned Coach of the Year honors.
The Panther women's hockey team scored four goals in a 2:18 span in the second period, on its way to an 8-1 win over Hamilton in a NESCAC Quarterfinal game in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (16-6-3) advance to the NESCAC semifinals on March 6th & 7th at Amherst, where they will battle Trinity at 4:00 p.m. The Continentals end their season with an 11-11-3 record.
The Middlebury College men's hockey team advanced to the NESCAC semifinals after a 6-2 win over Tufts in a quarterfinal match-up in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (17-4-4) will take part in the championship weekend on March 6th & 7th at Bowdoin, where they will take on Trinity at 4:00 p.m.
The Panther women's squash team finished the season ranked 14th nationally, finishing in sixth place in the Kurtz Division ("B") at the recent team championships hosted by Yale. The Panthers opened with a 6-3 loss to Mt. Holyoke, before bouncing back with a 6-3 win over Colby. The season ended with a 6-3 loss to Amherst. The team ends the year with a school-record 20 wins against just nine losses.
The Middlebury College indoor track teams were in action at the Open New England Championships hosted by Boston University over the weekend. The meet featured teams from Division I, II and III from around New England, with 11 Panthers earning All-New England honors.
