The Middlebury College women's tennis team opened up its season with a pair of wins at home indoors. The 15th-ranked Panthers opened with a 7-2 win over #29 Brandeis, before topping Wellesley, 6-3.

         Middlebury won five of six singles matches against Brandeis, all of them coming in straight sets, with the sixth coming via an opponent injury. In doubles play, the Panthers took two of three, with rookies Brittney Faber (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Leah Kepping (Northport, N.Y.) battling back from 1-4 and 5-7 down, to eventually fall, 9-8.

         Sophomores Victoria Aiello (Milton, Mass.) and Anna Burke (Summit, N.J.) beat the 11th ranked team in the region in the victory over Wellesley, taking the match 8-5. Trailing 3-6, senior Jamie Haar (Alpine, N.J.) and sophomore Sally Wilkey (Vero Beach, Fla.) came back to earn an 8-6 win. Middlebury took three of six singles matches, with Aiello coming back from 0-1 to force a third set tie-breaker which she would eventually drop, 10-8.
