The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team won its fourth NESCAC Championship with a 3-0 (20, 17, 23) win at Connecticut College in the title game on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers capture their second championship in the past three years, with previous titles in ’97, ’98, and ’10. It was the ninth victory in the past 10 outings for the Panthers (22-6), who received an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Panther field hockey team won its second NESCAC Championship with a 3-2 shootout victory over Bowdoin in a game played on Kohn Field. The top-ranked Panthers remain perfect on the season at 17-0 and will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Sixth-ranked Bowdoin falls to 14-3 on the year and is expected to get an at-large selection to the tournament.
Junior quarterback McCallum Foote (Newton, Mass.) threw five touchdown passes and ran for another as Middlebury defeated Hamilton 50-21 in a NESCAC game at Hamilton's windy and cold Steuben Field on Nov. 3. The showdown between the two programs was the 33rd playing of the "Old Rocking Chair Classic," which Middlebury won for the 17th straight year.
The Middlebury College cross country teams took part in the 2012 ECAC Championship hosted by Williams. The Middlebury women won the 41-team event, while the men were fifth among 43 squads. The Panthers were resting several of their top racers, with the NCAA Regionals slated for next Saturday.
The Middlebury women's soccer team will host an NCAA Regional on Dragone Field on Saturday, November 10th and Sunday, November 11th. The Panthers will take on Castleton on Saturday, while Lesley meets Misericordia in the other contest.
