The Middlebury College men’s cross country team earned a school-best eighth place finish at the 2012 NCAA Championship races hosted by Rose-Hullman Institute of Technology. North Central won the men’s title among 32 teams, with NESCAC foes Bates and Tufts finishing sixth and seventh. The Panther women just missed a top 10 finish by coming in 11th at the race. Johns Hopkins won the women’s crown, with Williams placing fourth at the event.
The Panther men’s basketball team captured the Rinso Marquette Tournament by defeating the host school Lebanon Valley, 72-63. Senior Nolan Thompson (Akron, Ohio) earned tournament MVP honors with 18 points on 6-12 shooting in the title game.
The Middlebury College women’s hockey team outshot Colby 40-12, but needed a goal with just 3:00 left to pick up a 3-2 NESCAC win over Colby in Kenyon Arena. The contest was the season-opener for both teams, who met again on Saturday.
The Panther men’s hockey team scored two power play goals and added an empty-netter on its way to a 5-2 road win at Colby in the season-opener for both teams. First-year player Riley Dickie (Wolfville, N.S.) scored the game-winning goal just 1:16 into the third period from sophomore George Ordway (Long Lake, Minn.).
The Middlebury College women’s basketball team opened up its season with a 66-61 overtime loss to the host school at the UMass.-Boston Tip-Off Classic.
The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams opened up their 2012-13 season with a meet at Connecticut College against the Camels and Tufts. The women defeated Tufts 159-134, while falling to Conn. 149-138. The men were defeated by Tufts 183-104, while dropping their contest with Conn., 179-99.
The Middlebury College men’s squash team won its first three matches of the season, all of them taking place at the MIT Round Robin. The 14th-ranked Panthers cruised in all three matches, picking up 9-0 victories over MIT and Northeastern, while topping #23 Wesleyan, 8-1. Senior Jay Dolan (Wareham, Mass.) played in the top spot for the first time for the Panthers, earning a 3-0 mark on the weekend.
The Panther women’s squash team opened up its ’12-’13 season with three wins at the MIT Round Robin. The 11th-ranked Panthers had little trouble with any of their opponents, picking up 9-0 victories over Wellesley, #18 Wesleyan and Northeastern. Sophomore Charlotte Dewey (Greenwich, Conn.) made her debut at #1 for the Panthers, going 3-0 on the weekend.
