MEN’S SOCCER DOWNED BY WESLEYAN

Wesleyan’s Matt Hertgen scored his first goal of the season and the only goal of the contest, leading Wesleyan to a 1-0 men's soccer victory over visiting Middlebury. Hertgen's goal, in the 35th minute, followed a perfectly executed cross from Noah Schlesinger from the left side of the field. Hertgen headed the ball into the left side of their net.
Middlebury senior Zach Abdu-Glass (Lexington, Mass.) accumulated six saves, three in each half. Wesleyan's goalie Adam Purdy came up with three saves on the day and achieved his fifth shutout of the season and the 28th of his Wesleyan career, an ongoing Wesleyan record. Wesleyan held an 11-7 edge in total shots on the day.
With this victory, Wesleyan's record improves to 5-1-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the NESCAC. Middlebury falls to 3-4-0 overall, with a 1-4-0 record in NESCAC action.
