Middlebury moved to 3-0 for the first time since ’07 with a 24-3 win over Amherst (2-1) on Youngman Field at Alumni Stadium. The Panthers join Trinity and Wesleyan as the only undefeated teams in NESCAC play through three games. The Middlebury defense held the powerful Amherst offense to just 249 yards, as they entered the contest with an average of 439.5 yards/game.

Middlebury broke open a scoreless game with three goals in the final minutes on its way to a 3-0 victory at Castleton. After outshooting Castleton 16-3 in the first half and 30-10 in the game, Middlebury finally got on the board in the 79th minute on an own goal. The ball was bouncing around in the box before it went off a defender and bounced back over Koenemann’s head into the net.

The Panther field hockey team had little trouble with Castleton State, handing their in-state foes a 10-0 loss on Kohn Field. Middlebury scored the first two goals of the game on the same penalty corner play. Sophomore Alyssa DiMaio (Morristown, N.J.) inserted to senior Margaret Souther (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who stopped the ball for Lauren Greer (N. Hampton, N.H.).

The Panther cross country teams were in action on Saturday, competing at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State. The 13th-ranked Middlebury men won the 40-team event with 23 points, followed by Amherst (111) and Connecticut College (140). The third-ranked Panther women captured the 43-team race with 28 points, followed by Amherst (64), and Wellesley (158).

The Middlebury College women’s volleyball team ran its win streak to six straight with a 3-0 win at Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday evening.  The Panthers, who won by scores of 30-28, 25-17, and 25-19, improve to 11-3 on the season, while Colby-sawyer dips to 8-10.

The Middlebury women’s golf team ended its fall season with a fourth place finish at the 14-team Williams Invitational Tournament. The host school won the event with a 641, followed by Ithaca (660), Cortland (666) and Middlebury (669). Senior Keely Levins (Rutland, Vt.) finished the weekend in fifth place, shooting an 82 and a 79 for a two-day total of 161.

Middlebury senior Maddy Boston (Mill Valley, Calif.) netted her first collegiate goal in the 11th minute, to lead seventh-ranked Middlebury to a 2-0 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), this evening in non-conference action from East Campus Stadium.

The Middlebury College men’s tennis team had a solid weekend at Dartmouth, taking part in the Dartmouth Shootout with Williams and other Division I schools. Five eight-man singles brackets took place, with two doubles brackets, along with a round robin doubles bracket.
