The Middlebury College field hockey team opened its season with a NESCAC victory over Tufts, topping the Jumbos 5-2 on Kohn Field.
The Panther women's golf team opened the fall with a win, capturing the St. Lawrence Invitational. The Panthers set a single-round record at the event with a 314, followed by Ithaca (321) and Cortland (325). The tournament was shortened to 18 holes on Sunday after Saturday's action was cancelled due to rain.
The Middlebury College women's volleyball team opened up its 2012 season with a split on day one of the Endicott Tournament. The Panthers dropped their opener 3-0 (23, 24, 17) to UMass.-Boston, before coming from two sets down to defeat the host school, 26-28, 22-25, 25-14, 27-14, 15-10.
The Panther cross country teams opened their season by taking part in the Dartmouth Invitational. In an event comprised of Division I teams, the Middlebury women were fifth behind Georgetown, Dartmouth, Syracuse and UConn. The Panther men were third, trailing Syracuse and Dartmouth in a three-team race.
Middlebury scored two first half goals and never looked back, on its way to a 2-0 win over Tufts in the opener for both squads.
The Middlebury College men's golf team opened the fall season with a third place finish at the 11-team St. Lawrence Invitational. Saturday's action was cancelled due to weather, leaving an 18-hole tourney on Sunday. The host school won the event with a 298, while the Panthers shot a 303.
The Panther women's tennis team began fall play by participating in the Morehouse Classic hosted by Williams. Bowdoin, Middlebury, Vassar and the Ephs competed in the two-day event.
Tufts used a goal in each half on its way to a 2-0 victory over Middlebury in the opener for each squad. Both teams return to action on Tuesday when the Panthers host Norwich and the Jumbos entertain Plymouth.
