Junior Laura Lowry’s (W. Hartford, Conn.) career-high 25 points propelled the Middlebury College women’s basketball team past visiting Trinity, moving the Panthers up a notch in the very crowded NESCAC standings with one game to play for both squads. Middlebury held a decisive edge at the charity stripe, making 27-36 tosses, while the Bantams knocked down 16-20 free throws for the game.
The fifth-ranked Middlebury College women’s hockey team clinched the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC Tournament with a 4-1 road win at Williams on Sunday afternoon. The Panthers will host a quarterfinal game on February 23rd and have earned the right to host the championship weekend on March 2nd and 3rd with a quarterfinal win.
With a blizzard bearing down on much of the East Coast this weekend, EISA officials, coaches, athletes, and volunteers alike faced numerous challenges to complete all events of the Dartmouth Carnival. After the postponement of only the alpine slalom races, the day one points were doubled to produce final results. UVM won the event with 713 points, followed by Dartmouth (675) and Middlebury (565).
The Middlebury College men’s basketball team won its fifth straight game as the fifth-ranked Panthers defeated Trinity 66-59 in Pepin Gym. The game had little flow with 52 fouls, 39 turnovers and 58 free throws taken in the contest. Middlebury will wrap up its regular season on Tuesday night when they host sixth-ranked Amherst at 7:00 p.m.
The Middlebury College men’s hockey team earned a split of a two-game set with Williams, topping the Ephs 3-1 in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (11-9-2, 10-4-2) have now won five of their last six games, returning to action next Friday at Hamilton.
The Panther women’s squash team improved to 15-4 on the season with a 9-0 win at 28th-ranked St. Lawrence on Tuesday. The Panthers, now ranked 11th nationally will return to action at the national team tournament from February 15th-17th at Yale.
