The Middlebury College women’s tennis team opened up its spring season with three indoor matches. The sixth-ranked Panthers had little trouble, winning 20 of 24 contests over the weekend. Middlebury returns to action in California on March 23rd during its annual spring break trip.

Middlebury opened with an 8-1 win over #23 Brandeis. The ninth-ranked doubles duo of seniors Brittney Faber (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Leah Kepping (Northport, N.Y.) reunited and earned an 8-5 win over a duo ranked 19th nationally. The Panthers dominated at #5 and #6, as rookie Margot Marchese (Summit, N.J.) and sophomore Katie Paradies (Atlanta, Ga.) each won 6-0, 6-0.

Later that day, Middlebury earned a 7-2 victory over #20 Trinity. The Panthers swept all four doubles matches against the Bantams, losing just 7 of 31 games played.

Another win followed on Sunday, as Middlebury moved to 2-0 in NESCAC play with an 8-1 win over #29 Bates. Sophomore Lok Sze Leung (Hong Kong) picked up another win at #1, entering the weekend as the nation’s second-ranked player. First-year player Sadie Shackelford (Sewanee, Tenn.) earned her first dual win with a 7-5, 6-1 victory at #5.
