The Middlebury College ski team finished tied for third overall at the 89th annual Middlebury College winter carnival. Alpine events took place at the Middlebury College Snow Bowl, while nordic events were moved to the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe after a lack of snow at the Rikert Ski Touring Center.  Vermont won the event with 955, followed by Dartmouth (848), Middlebury (724) and UNH (724).

Senior Patrick Johnson (Anchorage, Alaska) had a stellar weekend, winning the 10K free on Friday (24:36) and the 20K classic on Saturday (1:19.34). He cruised to the win in the freestyle race, 26 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, while winning by 12 seconds in the classical.

Also with two solid finishes for the nordic men was sophomore Ben Lustgarten (Burlington, Vt.), who placed 11th in the 10K (25:53) and eighth in the 20K (1:20.22). Senior Chase Marston (Charlotte, Vt.), came in with an eighth place finish in the 10K (25:53), while senior Taylor Sundali (Ketchum, Idaho) was the third Middlebury scorer in the 20K in 42nd place (1:24.16).

First-year racer Annie Pokorny (Spokane, Wash.) earned a pair of top 10 finishes for the Panther women. On day one, she completed the 5K free race in 14:41, good for eighth place. On Saturday, Pokorny moved up a spot to seventh place with a time of 1:06.10 in the 15K classic. First-year racer Rachel Hall (Cumberland, Maine) also scored for the team in both races, placing 13th in the 5K in 14:57, while earning a time of 1:08.35 in the 15K, good for 23rd place. Senior Sophie McClelland (Keene Valley, N.Y.) finished in 21st place in 15:19 to round out the scorers in the 5K, while rookie Heather Mooney’s (Peru, Vt.) 17th place finish (1:07.56) in the 15K earned her team points.

On day one at the Bowl, junior Bryan Shpall (Englewood, Colo.) was one of two Panthers to finish in the top 10, earning a sixth place finish with a time of 1:34.50 in the slalom. Placing eighth in the race was sophomore Hig Roberts (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) in 1:34.98, followed by sophomore Nick Bailey (Boise, Idaho) in 14th place (1:36.04). Three men finished in the top 10 in the GS on Saturday afternoon, with Roberts leading the group with a fifth place finish in 2:00.15. Bailey was next in ninth (2:00.87), followed by sophomore Liam Mulhern (Longmeadow, Mass.) in 10th (2:01.06).

Junior Christine Schozer (Winhall, Vt.) led the women with an eighth place finish with a time of 1:40.26 in the slalom. Coming in 18th place was rookie Katelyn Barclay (Pittsford, N.Y.) in 1:42.07, followed by classmate Mary Sackbauer (Vail, Colo.) in 29th (1:44.67). Barkley paced the women on day two, earning an 11th place finish in the GS with a time of 2:07.76. Close-behind was first-year racer Yina Moe-Lang (Sammamish, Wash.)  in 12th place (2:07.94), followed by Schozer in 15th (2:08.32).
