Junior Emma Kramer (Riverside, Conn.) scored five goals and assisted on three others to help lead the eighth ranked Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team to an 18-10 victory at Connecticut College Saturday. The Panthers improve their record to 2-0 with the win, while the Camels slip to 0-3 with the setback.
Junior Margaret Souther (Scarsdale, N.Y.) chipped in with three goals and an assist for the Panthers. Seniors Elizabeth Garry (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and Stephanie Gill (Hingham, Mass.) both contributed with two goals and an assist for Middlebury.
Connecticut College senior Katelyn Driscoll netted four scores to go along with five ground balls and four draws in the loss. Sophomore Lowell Abbott chipped in with three goals for the Camels. Junior Bri Miller scored twice for the hosts.
Middlebury scored the first four goals of the second half to break the game open. Garry capped the rally, burying a free position goal with 20:53 remaining to make it a 14-5 game.
Abbott and Driscoll scored two goals each in the second half but it was not enough and the Panthers continued to pull away for the 18-10 win.
The Panthers raced out to a 3-0 lead when Kramer scored for the visitors with 25:07 remaining in the first stanza. After first-year player Kate Ritter (Middlebury, Vt.) scored a free position goal with 12:26 remaining, Middlebury’s lead was 8-3.
The Panthers took their largest lead of the half when Kramer netted her third goal of the contest with 11.2 seconds left. But Driscoll answered for the Camels, finding the back of the net as time expired to make it a 10-5 game at the intermission.
Senior Lily Nguyen (Oakland, Calif.) made four saves to earn the victory for the visitors. Sophomore Alyssa Palomba (Shrewsbury, Mass.) contributed five saves in seven minutes of relief duty. Connecticut College junior Kelsey Burke made 12 saves in the setback.
Garry finished with a team-best four ground balls for the Panthers, while Gill corralled five draws for the winning side.
