The Middlebury College women’s lacrosse team defeated defending national champion Gettysburg, 15-9, in the NCAA Regional Finals on Sunday afternoon. The victory sends the Panthers (15-4) to the final four to face top-ranked and unbeaten Salisbury University (21-0) in the national semifinals on Saturday, May 19, at 1 p.m. at Montclair State University.
Panther senior Flora Weeks (Seattle, Wash.) finished in a tie for 14th place among 101 golfers at the 2012 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship. The 72-hole event was held at the Zollner Golf Course in Angola, Indiana.
The Middlebury College women's tennis team saw Bowdoin come back from a 4-1 deficit to defeat the Panthers 5-4 to win an NCAA Women’s Tennis Regional in Middlebury, Vermont. The Polar Bears (13-8) will take on Emory in the national quarterfinals on Monday, May 21st in Cary, N.C. The Panthers finish their season with a record of 15-4.
The Panther men’s tennis team saw its season come to a close with a 5-2 loss at the hands of Johns Hopkins in the NCAA Regional Finals on Sunday. The Panthers end their 2012 campaign with a 14-7 record.
The Middlebury College track and field teams took part in the 2012 Outdoor New England Championships hosted by MIT. Teams from Division I, II and III competed, with the Panther men placing 10th of 38 and the women coming in 11th among 35 teams. Senior Michael Schmidt (Winnetka, Ill.) earned New England Champion honors in the 5,000 with a time of 14:20, 15 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.
