The Middlebury College track and field teams took part in the 2012 Outdoor New England Championships hosted by MIT. Teams from Division I, II and III competed, with the Panther men placing 10th of 38 and the women coming in 11th among 35 teams. Senior Michael Schmidt (Winnetka, Ill.) earned New England Champion honors in the 5,000 with a time of 14:20, 15 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor.

Both of Middlebury’s 4x800 relay teams turned in solid finishes, setting new school records. The men’s team of Schmidt, juniors Jack Davies (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) and Patrick Hebble (Sudbury, Mass.) and sophomore Sam Craft (Hamden, Conn.) finished in third place overall with a time of 7:43.98. The women’s squad of seniors Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) and Rebecca Fanning (Ipswich, Mass.) along with juniors Sarah O’Brien (Wellesley, Mass.) and Juliet Ryan-Davis (Newton, Mass.) placed second in 9:00.50.

Junior Addie Tousley (Kensington, Md.) placed second in the 5,000 with a time of 17:16.36, senior Hannah Meier (Charlotte, Vt.) was third in the 10,000 (37:39.31), while Cramer was fifth in the 800 (2:11.70).

Sophomore Lauren Pincus (Upper Montclair, N.J.) earned a fifth place finish in the javelin (135’9”), sophomore Kevin Chu (Burlington, Vt.) was sixth in the 110 hurdles in 14.79, while senior Mia Martinez (Ridgewood, N.J.) came in seventh in the 100 hurdles (14.66).
