SWIMMING AND DIVING HOSTS SPRINGFIELD

            The Middlebury College swimming and diving teams finished up the first semester with home meets against Springfield. The Panther women picked up a 177-123 win, while the men were edged, 156-146.

            The women’s 400 medley relay team of sophomore Andrea Tibbetts (Dover, Mass.), junior Nora Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and rookies Jamie Hillas (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Maddy Berkman (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) won the event with a time of 4:01.81.

            Winning two other individual events was Tibbetts, who captured the 50 backstroke (27.76) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.67). Also picking up a pair of victories was Hillas, who won both the 50 (30.40) and 100 (1:07.98) breaststroke events. Rookie Courtney Haron (N. Kingstown, R.I.) was a winner in the 200 free (1:57.70), senior Katherine Loftus (Madison, Conn.) captured the 500 free (5:16.52), sophomore Cori West (Anchorage, Alaska) won the 1,000 free (11:01.65), while rookie Lydia Carpenter (Arlington, Va.) won the 50 free (25.45).

            The men’s 400 medley relay team of senior Kazu Asaga (Chappaqua, N.Y.), junior rookie Chris Vandiford (Springfield, Ohio), junior Tyler Sandoval (Westerly, R.I.) and senior Nick Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) picked up a win with a time of 3:38.33. Daly, rookie James Wing (Indian Head Park, Ill.), junior Ethan Litman (Bethesda, Md.) and sophomore Patrick Li (Hong Kong) were a part of the winning 200 free relay team (1:27.28).

            Also picking up two individual wins was Daly, who captured the 50 free (21.61) and the 50 fly (23.52). Other individual men’s winners included Vandiford in the 50 breaststroke (28.65), Sandoval in the 100 fly (54.05) and Li in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.98).
