SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS OPEN SEASON

The Panther swimming and diving teams opened up their 2011-12 seasons by hosting Tufts and Connecticut College. The women earned a 152-148 win over Tufts and a 172-121 victory over Conn. College. On the men's side, the Jumbos earned a 166-128 win over the Panthers, while the Camels were 181-107 victory.
Sophomore Andrea Tibbetts (Dover, Mass.) won a pair of events, while also being a part of the winning 200 medley relay team. Tibbetts captured the 100 back in 59.43, while earning a time of 2:10.72 to win the 200 back. Tibbetts, along with junior Nora Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and rookies Jamie Hillas (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Maddy Berkman (Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.) won the 200 medley in 1:50.49. Hillas also captured two individual events, winning both the 100 breaststroke (1:06.94) and the 200 breaststroke (2:29.06).
Also picking up a pair of wins for the women was senior Katherine Loftus, (Madison, Conn.), who captured the 100 (10:51.22) and 500 (5:18.12) free races. Other winners on the day were first-year racer Cece Burkey (Winchester, Mass.) in the 200 free (1:57.60) and sophomore Alexandra Edel (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) in the 200 IM (2:14.57).
On the men’s side, first-year racer Teddy Kuo (Bayside, N.Y.) was the lone winner, picking up a victory in the 200 fly with a time of 2:00.86. Five different Middlebury men earned second place honors, including junior Ethan Litman (Bethesda, Md.) in the 200 free (1:48.29) and senior Nick Daly (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) in the 50 free (21.96). Also placing second were senior Omar Carmical (San Leandro, Calif.) (1M diving-198.75 points), sophomore Skylar Dallmeyer-Drennen (Canandaigua, N.Y.) (3M diving-186.75 points) and junior Tyler Sandoval (Westerly, R.I.) in the 100 fly (53.99).
