The fifth-ranked Panther men’s basketball team handed St. Joseph’s College of Rutland its first loss of the season (5-1), as the Panthers (3-0) picked up a 61-48 win in their home-opener in Pepin Gym. Middlebury was playing without pre-season All-American Ryan Sharry (Braintree, Mass.), who was missing his third straight game with an injury.
The Panther women's hockey picked up a 4-1 win at Plattsburgh in the third-place game of the Panther/Cardinal Classic. The third-ranked Panthers move to 3-0-1 on the season, while the fourth-ranked Cardinals fell to 5-2-1.
Elmira became the first team other than Middlebury, Plattsburgh and Norwich since 2002 to advance to the PrimeLink Great Northern Shootout finals. The #10 Soaring Eagles did so by scoring three goals in a 1:42 span on their way to a 3-2 victory over #11 Middlebury. Elmira went on to fall at the hands of Norwich in the title game.
