The Middlebury College cross country teams took part in the Open New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday. The men were the top finishing D3 team, placing fourth among 39 squads, topping several D1 schools. The finish was the best in school history and the first in the top 10. The women finished sixth overall, second only to Williams among D3 teams in a 39-squad race.

The Panther field hockey team earned three more wins last week, improving to 8-2 overall. With her six goals and six assists, junior Lauren Greer (N. Hampton, N.H.) earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors for the second straight time.

The Middlebury College women’s golf team ended its fall season with a second place finish among 12 teams at the Williams Fall Invitational. Senior Flora Weeks (Seattle, Wash.) earned medalist honors for the third time this fall, capturing the tourney with a two-day total of 151. The team ended with a 665 overall, with Williams shooting a 646.

The Panther men’s soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2) with two more wins last week. Senior Tyler Macnee (Williston, Vt.) netted a pair of goals to lead Middlebury to a 2-0 win over Castleton State in a non-conference game on Tuesday.

Amherst forced five turnovers and got four rushing touchdowns from Eric Bunker during a 48-28 win over Middlebury Saturday afternoon on Pratt Field.  Amherst intercepted three passes and recovered two Middlebury fumbles, with two of those turnovers leading directly to touchdowns. The Jeffs held a 34-21 edge at the end of a thrilling first half that featured five lead changes, and the hosts would out-score the Panthers by a 14-7 margin in the final two quarters.

The Middlebury College men’s golf team finished in a third place tie among 12 teams at the Hamilton Invitational. The Panthers finished with a 611, two strokes behind Williams and seven off the winning pace set by Manhattanville.

The Middlebury College men's tennis team sent its starting lineup to Dartmouth over the weekend, with the remainder of the squad competing at Bates. The events were the final ones of the fall season for the Panthers, with match play beginning in March.

The Middlebury College women's tennis team hosted the fifth annual Gail Smith Doubles Tournament on campus. Thirty doubles teams from eight different schools competed in the tournament, honoring long-time Middlebury coach and administrator Gail Smith. Women's duos from Amherst, Bowdoin, Brandeis, Middlebury, Rochester, Skidmore, St. Lawrence and Trinity took part in the tournament, as well as some open duos.

The Middlebury College women's volleyball team split a pair of NESCAC matches at Tufts on Friday and Saturday. Friday night, the Panthers picked up a 3-0 (24, 14, 22) win over Connecticut College, before falling to the host school 3-0 (13, 15, 12) on Saturday afternoon.

The Middlebury College women’s soccer team saw its five-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to Rensselaer (4-6-1) 1-0 in overtime on Dragone Field.
