MEN’S TENNIS COMPETES AT DARTMOUTH/BATES
October 10, 2011
The Middlebury College men's tennis team sent its starting lineup to Dartmouth over the weekend, with the remainder of the squad competing at Bates. The events were the final ones of the fall season for the Panthers, with match play beginning in March.
At Dartmouth, the Panthers competed in a hidden dual, taking on the host school and Williams in doubles play on Friday. Senior Derek Angle (Troy, N.Y.) and junior Alec Parower (Scarsdale, N.Y.) won both of their matches, as did sophomore Teddy Fitzgibbons (Mission Hills, Kan.) and senior David Farah (Flint, Mich.). Fitzgibbons and Farah followed that up on Sunday with another victory to claim the weekend doubles title. In singles play, Angle and Farah both won two of three matches they competed in.
At Bates, sophomore James Burke (Summit, N.J.) picked up a win in the “B” singles bracket before falling in the quarterfinals. In the “A” doubles flight, juniors Chris Schlabach (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Johann Riefkohl (Munich, Germany) were 8-1 winners before falling to Skidmore in the quarters. Rookies Peter Heidrich (Peoria, Ill.) and Courtney Mountifield (Bedford, N.H.) also picked up a win, before falling in the quarters.
