CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS SPARKLE AT N.E.’s

The Middlebury College cross country teams took part in the Open New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday. The men were the top finishing D3 team, placing fourth among 39 squads, topping several D1 schools. The finish was the best in school history and the first in the top 10. The women finished sixth overall, second only to Williams among D3 teams in a 39-squad race.
Senior Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) finished seventh overall in the 282-man race, earning a time of 24:56. Junior Jack Davies (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) was next for the Panthers in 33rd place in 25:38, followed by junior Patrick Hebble (Sudbury, Mass.) in 40th place (25:48). Sophomore Nate Sans (Princeton, Mass.) and senior Sam Miller (Needham, Mass.) rounded out the Middlebury racers, finishing in 46th (25:56) and 95th place (26:32) respectively.
Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) paced the women’s squad, which was missing one of its top five racers. The senior finished 26th overall in 18:31, followed by junior Addie Tousley (Kensington, Md.) who was seven seconds behind. Senior Chelsea Ward-Waller (Washington, D.C.) finished the race in 40th place (18:45), followed by sophomore Emily Singer (Harrison, N.Y.) in 59th (19:01) and first-year racer Katie Carlson (Princeton, Mass.) in 60th (19:02).
