WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL WINS TWO OF THREE

            The Middlebury College women's volleyball team played a pair of matches at the Amherst Classic over the weekend. On Friday night, Middlebury fell to 5-4 on the year with a 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-20, 15-10) loss at the hands of Coast Guard. The Panthers bounced back on Saturday, topping Brandeis 3-0 (10, 20, 21).

            Junior Caitlin Barrett (Medfield, Mass.) had 41 digs in the match with Coast Guard, as the Panthers lost a heartbreaker. Sophomore Megan Jarchow (Cos Cob, Conn.) and junior Sarah Studwell (Pittsford, N.Y.) each had 18 kills in the victory, while sophomore Amy Hart (Kenilworth, Ill.) had 10. Jarchow hit at .326 in the match, while Studwell converted .317 of her attempts. Junior Julia Gibbs (Houston, Texas) dished out 45 assists in the contest.

            The following day, Studwell earned nine kills, while Jarchow had eight in the three-set victory over Brandeis. Barrett earned 20 digs in the match, while Jarchow had 14 with five blocks.

            Earlier in the week, Middlebury cruised to a three-set victory at Union Tuesday night, earning a 3-0 (16, 18, 20) road win. Studwell led the team with 11 kills, while Jarchow added seven. Barrett picked up 16 digs in the victory, while Gibbs had 25 assists.
