The Middlebury College softball team had a big week, splitting with Rensselaer before sweeping a three-game NESCAC West series with Williams.
The Panther men’s golf team opened up its spring season with a third place finish among 10 teams competing at the Manhattanville/NYU Spring Invitational Tournament. Skidmore won the event with a 598, followed by SUNY Delhi (626), Middlebury (627) and NYU (628).
The Middlebury College women’s golf team began its spring season with a fifth place finish in the 12-team Vassar Invitational. Williams won the event with a 686, while the Panthers came in with a two-day total of 717.
The Panther men's tennis team moved to 12-1 overall, 3-0 in conference play with a 7-2 win at home over #13 Trinity (5-3, 2-1). Middlebury took two of three doubles matches early on, while winning five of six in singles play.
The Middlebury College women’s tennis team improved to 6-1 overall, 2-0 in NESCAC play, with a 9-0 blanking at Hamilton (5-3, 0-1) on Sunday. The 10th-ranked Panthers had little trouble with the Continentals, winning all six singles matches in straight sets.
The Panther track and field teams returned to action in New England on Saturday, taking part in the Springfield Invitational. The Pride won the meet, followed by the Panthers and the Polar Bears of Bowdoin.
Rachel Friedman scored a game-high five goals and Sarah Bray added four goals and three assists to lead nationally ranked No. 3 Hamilton College to a 16-6 win against No. 9 Middlebury College in a non-league women's lacrosse game at Hamilton's Steuben Field on April 5.
The Middlebury College baseball team won its home-opener on Wednesday before dropping two of three at Amherst over the weekend. Middlebury scored 11 runs in the first inning and never looked back, as the Panthers (6-4) topped Southern Vermont (6-11) 19-4 in the team’s home-opener on Forbes Field.
The 12th-ranked Amherst College men’s lacrosse team scored three goals in a span of 1:07 late in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 9-7 upset win over seventh-ranked Middlebury College, marking the first time since 1989 the Lord Jeffs have defeated the Panthers.
