SKI TEAMS FINISH FOURTH AT UVM

The Middlebury College ski teams returned to action after no carnival races last weekend, earning a fourth place finish at the UVM Carnival. The host school won the event with 1,009 points, followed by Dartmouth (801), UNH (783) and Middlebury (708). Alpine teams placed third in three of four events, with a second place finish in the women's slalom. The men's nordic team placed third overall in both races on the weekend.

            Senior Nicole Dvorak (Essex Junction, Vt.) was Middlebury’s top female alpine racer, finishing fifth in the GS (2:06.93) and fourth in the slalom race (1:51.12). Sophomore Christine Schozer (Winhall, Vt.) had her best finish of the season, placing seventh in the slalom (1:52.15), followed by senior Tasha Woodworth (Carlisle, Mass.) in 13th (1:54.79). Finishing 11th in the GS was sophomore Bronwyn Oatley (Thornhill, Ont.) in 2:08.65, followed closely by Woodworth in 13th place (2:09.17).

            First-year racer Robert Cone (Killington, Vt.) had another solid weekend for the men, placing third in the GS (2:02.78) and sixth in the slalom (1:41.62). Classmate Hig Roberts (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) finished seventh in both races (2:03.10 in GS, 1:41.79 in slalom), while sophomore Andrew McNealus (Woodstock, Vt.) was 10th in the GS (2:03.31) and 40th in the slalom (2:25.07).

            First-year racer Ben Lustgarten (Burlington, Vt.) led the nordic men in the 20K classical race, finishing 10th overall with a time of 1:04.09. Placing 12th in the race was junior Chase Marston (Charlotte, Vt.) in 1:04.34, followed by junior Doug DeBold (Wayzata, Minn.) in 16th (1:04.58). Marston earned the team’s top spot in the 10K free, finishing 10th with a time of 27:20. Lustgarden came in 15th (27:36) for the Panthers, followed by DeBold in 23rd (28:13).

            Sophomore Keely Levins (Rutland, Vt.) paced the women’s squad in the 15K classical, placing 17th with a time of 56:01. Sophomore Hilary Rich (Andover, Mass.) was next in 27th place (57:56), followed by first-year racer Emily Attwood (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) in 29th (58:05). In the 5K free, Prevot paced the group with a 19th place finish in 15:56. Attwood came in 24th overall (16:11) in the race, followed by senior Sophie McClelland (Keene Valley, N.Y.) in 25th (16:16).
