The Middlebury College ski team earned its best finish of the season by placing third at the Dartmouth Carnival. UVM won the event with 1,002 points, followed by Dartmouth (904), Middlebury (722) and UNH (687). The Panthers return to action this weekend when they host their own carnival on Friday and Saturday.

The Panther men’s hockey team won for the seventh time in its last 10 games (7-1-2) as the Panthers (11-6-5) picked up a 2-1 win over Babson (9-11) in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers are in a three-way tie for first place in the NESCAC standings (Hamilton/Williams), with just one week remaining in the regular season.

 The Middlebury College men’s basketball team survived a scare from Trinity as the seventh-ranked Panthers held on for a 57-56 win over the Bantams (13-11, 4-5) in the NESCAC regular season finale for both teams. Middlebury (20-1, 8-1) earns the second-seed in the NESCAC Tournament and will host seventh-seeded Connecticut College on Saturday, February 19th.

Senior Alexi Bloom (Highland Park, Ill.) made 20 saves in goal to earn her eighth shutout of the season as #5 Middlebury (16-3-1) earned a 1-0 victory over #3 Plattsburgh (15-3-3) in Kenyon Arena. The win was the first for the Panthers in their last 11 tries (1-7-3) against the Cardinals, avenging a 5-0 loss back on January 3rd in New York.

The Middlebury women’s basketball team wrapped up regular season NESCAC play with a 66-47 win over Trinity (13-10, 3-6 NESCAC) in Pepin Gym. The Panthers (14-8, 3-6) have earned the seventh seed for the NESCAC Tournament and will visit second-seeded Colby on Saturday, February 19th in a quarterfinal match-up.

The Panther men’s squash team had a busy weekend with five matches taking place at home. The weekend opened with a 9-0 loss to #9 Dartmouth, before cruising past the University of Vermont 8-1 and Bard, 9-0. On Sunday, the Panthers fell 7-2 to #11 Williams, before earning a second win over UVM, 8-1.

The Middlebury College indoor track teams took part in meets hosted by Boston University and Tufts University over the weekend. Four different NCAA qualifying standards were met, while five school records were broken.

The Panther women’s squash team entertained a pair of top opponents at home over the weekend. The 10th ranked Panthers earned a 5-4 win over #11 Williams on Saturday, before falling 9-0 to #9 Dartmouth on Sunday. The Panthers were in a battle with the Ephs, earning wins at 4,5,7,8 and 9.
