            The Panther ski team battled its way back for a top 10 finish at the 2011 NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Vermont. Colorado won the title with 831 points, followed by Utah (730), Dartmouth (643) and Middlebury in ninth (246).

            Sophomore Andrew McNealus (Woodstock, Vt.) earned All-American honors in the men’s slalom at Stowe, finishing the race in sixth place with a time of 1:43.49. First-year racers Hig Roberts (Steamboat Springs, Colo.) and Rob Cone (Killington, Vt.) had rough second runs, as did several racers on Saturday. Roberts placed 23rd overall in 2:04.55, while Cone came in 26th place with a time of 2:17.45.

            Senior Nicole Dvorak (Essex Junction, Vt.) had a nice second run to finish the slalom event in 16th place in 1:59.08, while senior Tasha Woodworth (Carlisle, Mass.)was DQ’d during her second run.

            The nordic racers competed in their final event on Friday, with the men’s 15K and the men's 20K classic mass start events. Junior Chase Marston (Charlotte, Vt.) was the top finisher for the men's team, placing 16th overall with a time of 1:07.36. Finishing the race in 37th place was first-year racer Ben Lustgarten (Burlington, Vt.), who came in with a time of 1:11.34. Sophomore Corinne Prevot (East Burke, Vt.) raced for the women, finishing in 38th place with a time of 1:01.40.

            At Stowe on day one, Cone earned All-American honors in the GS, finishing the race fourth overall with a time of 2:03.08. McNealus was next for the Panthers with a 20th place finish (2:04.91), followed by Roberts in 32nd place (2:15.90).

            Dvorak and Woodworth also raced at Stowe for the Middlebury women. Dvorak finished the race in 24th place in 2:09.41, while Woodworth placed 26th in 2:09.82.

            In the women's 5K freestyle race at Trapp, Prevot earned a 25th place finish in 15:24 in the 39-person race. On the men's side, Marston finished the 39-man 10K free race in 31st place with a time of 27:45. Finishing the race in 37th place (28:09) for the Panthers was Lustgarten.
