The Middlebury College women’s DMR (distance medley relay) team has won the NCAA Indoor National Championships. The group accomplished the feat at the 2011 NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. The team, comprised of senior Sophia Spring (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.), sophomore Juliet Ryan-Davis (Newton, Mass.), senior Kaitlyn Saldanha (Scarborough, Maine) and junior Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.), won the event with a time of 11:47.96.

The Middlebury College men’s basketball team will make its first appearance in the final four after the Panthers topped St. Mary’s (Md.) by a score of 65-50 in a sectional final in Rochester, N.Y. Middlebury will take on St. Thomas in a semifinal game on March 18 in Salem, Virginia, while Williams meets Wooster in the other semifinal contest.

The Panther women’s hockey team has advanced to the NCAA Frozen Four for the sixth time after a 1-0 shutout victory over Manhattanville (19-8-1) in an first-round game played in Kenyon Arena. The Panthers (22-1-4) will take on R.I.T. in one semifinal on March 18th, while Gustavus Adolphus meets Norwich in the second semifinal. Games will be played at R.I.T. in Rochester, N.Y.

The Panther ski team battled its way back for a top 10 finish at the 2011 NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Vermont. Colorado won the title with 831 points, followed by Utah (730), Dartmouth (643) and Middlebury in ninth (246).

Senior David Hild (W. Hartford, Conn.) scored a career-best six goals to lead Middlebury past Bates 14-6 at Kohn Field on Saturday. With the season-opening win, the seventh-ranked Panthers own a 1-0 overall record and a 1-0 NESCAC mark, while Bates evens their record at 2-2, falling to 0-1 in conference play.

The 12th-ranked Panther women’s tennis team began its spring season with a pair of indoor wins at home on Saturday. Middlebury picked up an 8-1 win over Brandeis, while earning a shutout victory over Connecticut College by a score of 9-0.

Senior Sally Ryan's (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) fifth goal of the game was the lone score of the overtime period, giving No. 15 nationally ranked Middlebury a 10-9, come-from-behind victory to spoil the Garcelon Field opener of the Bates women's lacrosse team on Saturday.

The top-ranked Middlebury College men’s tennis team opened up its season with three indoor matches played at home. The Panthers had little trouble with their opponents, defeating Oneonta 9-1 on Saturday, following that up with an 8-1 win over Brandeis. Middlebury concluded the weekend with a 9-0 blanking of Connecticut College.
