November 1, 2010
The Middlebury College football team led 10-9 early, but couldn't hold on, as Trinity came back to earn a 25-10 win over the Panthers on Jesse/Miller Field. The Bantams have now won 38 straight games at home and improve to 5-1 overall, while the Panthers fall to 2-4.
Trinity led 3-0 when senior Anthony Kuchan (Wauwatosa, Wis.) booted a 26-yarder for the Panthers to tie the game at 3-3 at the 4:58 mark of the first quarter. Senior Donald McKillop's (Poway, Calif.) 32-yard connection with junior Matt Rayner (Andover, Mass.) and a 13-yard hook-up with junior Nick Resor (Westwood, Mass.) were the key plays on the drive.
Trinity answered with a 10-play, 91 yard drive resulting in a three yard scamper from Ben Sherry to make it 9-3 Bantams after a failed extra-point. Middlebury came right back, regaining the lead 10-9 with 11:57 left in the second quarter on a 12-yard connection from McKillop to Resor.
The Bantams regained the lead on their next possession, driving 80-yards in 6:10 to take a 16-10 advantage on another three-yard rush from Sherry.
Trinity took advantage of a Middlebury interception on its next possession, when Tim Costello booted his second of the game, this one from 22 yards out to give Trinity a 19-10 lead at the half.
Costello struck again after a 7:53 drive stalled at the Middlebury 15, resulting in a 32-yarder midway through the third quarter. He struck again in the fourth, making it a 4-4 day with a 21-yarder at the 11:03 mark.
McKillop finished the day 16 of 38 for 203 yards with a touchdown and two picks. Rayner (84 yards) and Resor (45 yards) led the squad with five receptions apiece. Senior Andrew Poulin (Irvington, N.Y.) had a huge game on defense, recording a career-high 19 tackles in the game, three for lost yardage, including a pass break-up. Senior Paul Carroll (New Providence, N.J.) added 14 stops, while junior Michael Bilodeau (Hull, Mass.) made 13.
