The Middlebury College women's basketball team captured the SUNY-Brockport tournament by topping the hosts 81-71 in the title game. Senior Lauren Sanchez (Seattle, Wash.) earned tournament M.V.P. honors, while junior Brittany Perfetti (Clifton Heights, Pa.) was named to the All-Tournament team.

            Sanchez followed up her 30-point effort Friday night with 17 on Saturday to lead the team. She converted 23-26 free throws on the weekend in 70 minutes. Perfetti scored 15 points on 5 of 10 shooting, while junior Stephany Surette (Worcester, Mass.) scored six with 11 rebounds.

            The Panthers held a slight 40-36 edge on the boards, while picking up 10 steals.

            Middlebury opened its season with an 81-71 win over Nazareth at the SUNY-Brockport Tournament. Sanchez scored a career-high 30 points in the win, going 9 of 13 from the floor, 12 of 14 from the free throw line, while picking up four steals.

            The Panthers shot .491 from the floor on the night, including .548 in the first half as they held a 38-37 lead at the intermission. Middlebury picked up 13 steals in the game, led by Sanchez' four.

            Surrette added 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the game, followed by first-year player Katie Pett (Saginaw, Mich.) with 11 and junior Maddie Moreau (Canton, N.Y.) with 10. Sophomore Jesse Miller (Wellesley, Mass.) picked up six points and eight boards in the win.
