            Senior Ryan Wholey (Pelham, N.H.) scored 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting to lead Middlebury to an 86-62 win at UMass.-Dartmouth to capture the host school's tournament. Junior Ryan Sharry (Braintree, Mass.) earned tourney M.V.P. honors, while Wholey and senior Andrew Locke (Seattle, Wash.) were named to the All-Tournament team.

            Middlebury shot .527 from the floor in the game, including a .581 in the first half. The Panthers controlled the boards, holding a 41-27 advantage, while connecting on 7 of 11 (.636) from three-point land.

            Sharry scored 15 points with 11 rebounds in the win, sophomore Nolan Thompson (Akron, Ohio) added 10 points, while sophomore Jake Wolfin (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) had six assists.

            The ninth-ranked Middlebury men's basketball team opened its season with a 63-60 win over Baruch at the UMass.-Dartmouth Tournament. The Panthers held their opponents to just .308 from the floor, holding a 51-39 advantage on the boards. Middlebury overcame poor free throw (14-24) and three-point shooting (1-13) to emerge with the win.

            The tightly contested game was tied on 15 occasions, including 60-all with 26 seconds left on the clock. Middlebury, playing in their season opener, pulled away on a jumper with six seconds left by Wolfin to take the 62-60 lead.

            The Bearcats had a chance to tie the game on free throws with two seconds left, but could not connect as Middlebury finished off the victory with a free throw with less than one second remaining to pick up the win.

            Locke led Middlebury with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds on 7 of 9 shooting. Sharry also had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds, while Thompson added 11 points. Wolfin finished with eight points and six assists, while Wholey had six points with seven boards.
