CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS COMPETE AT OPEN N.E.'S

The Panther cross country teams raced at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday, taking part in the Open New England Championships with teams from Division I, II and III from across New England. The Middlebury women continued to impress, placing third overall in the 47-team race, second to just B.C. and UConn. The men's squad was ninth among D3 schools, finishing 24th in the 47-team race.
Senior Amanda Lee (Lincoln, Neb.) led the Middlebury women, finishing the race in 24th place with a time of 18:17 overall. Just two seconds behind was first-year racer Colette Whitney (High Bridge, N.J.) in 26th, followed by classmate Madie Hubbell (Des Moines, Iowa) in 30th place (18:25). Rounding out Middlebury's scorers were sophomore Addie Tousley (Kensington, Md.) in 38th (18:36) and junior Claire McIlvennie (Ithaca, N.Y.) in 45th place (18:45).
Junior Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) led the Panther men, finishing 12th overall with a time of 24:54. First-year racer Greg Krathwohl (Ipswich, Mass.) was next for Middlebury, placing 130th in 26:23, followed by classmate Nate Sans (Princeton, Mass.), who came in 140th place (26:29). Sophomore Jack Davies (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) finished the race in 142nd place (26:32), followed by junior Sam Miller (Needham, Mass.) in 172nd (26:48).
