CROSS COUNTRY DOMINATES RACE

The Middlebury College cross country teams hosted the Panther Invitational races on campus Saturday with eight full men's teams and six women's squads in action. The Panthers dominated both races, placing seven men and eight women in the top 10.
First-year racer Colette Whitney (High Bridge, N.J.) won the women's race with a time of 18:48, eight seconds ahead of her senior teammate Amanda Lee (Lincoln, Neb.), who placed second. Junior Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) was third (19:00), followed by rookie Katie Rominger (Brooklyn, N.Y.) (19:01) and classmate Madie Hubbell (Des Moines, Iowa) (19:03) in fourth and fifth respectively. Also in the top seven were sophomore Addie Tousely (Kensington, Md.) (19:05) in sixth and junior Claire McIlvennie (Ithaca, N.Y.) (19:13) in seventh.
Junior Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) won the men's race for the third straight year, finishing with a time of 27:01. Rookie Greg Krathwohl (Ipswich, Mass.) was next, just eight seconds behind in second place, followed by senior Jack Terrett (Sherborn, Mass.), who finished fourth (27:20). sophomore Jack Davies (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) came in fifth (27:40), junior Sam Miller (Needham, Mass.) was sixth (27:43), first-year racer Nate Sans (Princeton, Mass.) placed seventh (27:53), while rookie Leif Castren (Kalispell, Mont.) rounded out the top racers with a ninth place (28:00) finish.
