Baseball Team Wins Two Of Three At Wesleyan

4/17/04 - Middlebury took two of three at Wesleyan in a NESCAC West series over the weekend. The Panthers lost game one on Friday, 6-3 before bouncing back to win two on Saturday. Middlebury won game one, 5-4 in eight innings, while picking up a 10-6 win in game two.

In game one of the series, Wesleyan scored six runs on just three hits between the fifth and sixth inning on its way to the 6-2 win. Just two of the runs were earned, as Middlebury made four errors in the game. Sophomore Andrew Pavoni (Scotch Plains, N.J.) was the lone Panther with two hits, including a double. Junior David Riester (Appleton, Wis.) took the loss, despite a decent start. (box)

An RBI single by junior Brian Vickery (Plymouth, Mass.) in the bottom of the eighth inning was the game-winner in game two, as Middlebury picked up a 5-4 win in an eight inning contest. The teams exchanged runs in the first inning and three apiece in the fifth, setting up the extra inning of action. Pavoni had a key two-run single in the fifth for Middlebury. Junior Liam Quinn (Waltham, Vt.) was the only multiple-hit player for Middlebury, with every player in the lineup having at least one hit. Rookie Chris Solberg (Katonah, N.Y.) earned the win in relief. (box)

In the final game, Middlebury scored in five of seven innings, including five in the fourth on its way to the 10-6 win over the Cardinals. Reister went 3-4 with three runs and two RBI, while Pavoni was 3-4 with a pair of runs and an RBI. Sophomore Dom DiDomenico (Oceanside, N.Y.) went 2-4 with a triple. Senior Jim Muhlfeld (Darien, Conn.) earned the win in relief. (box)
