Riester & Armstrong Named All-N.E.

Middlebury College baseball players Ryan Armstrong (Whitman, Mass.) and David Riester (Appleton, Wis.) have been named second-team selections to the Division III NEIBA (New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association) All-New England team. The duo led the Panthers to a pair of five hundred records, going 14-14 overall and 6-6 in NESCAC play.

Armstrong earned first-team honors after hitting the cover off the ball in '05. The junior set a new school record, hitting .495 on the season. He hit 13 doubles, whacked four triples and scored 29 runs, while also walking 23 times for an on-base percentage of .587. The centerfielder also drove in 28 runs this season, while stealing four of five bases. He had a hit in 23 of 27 games this season, while reaching base in all 27 games he played in.

Riester earned second-team honors as the team's second baseman, as well as a starting pitcher. The senior hit .390 this season, leading the team with 15 steals in 17 attempts. Riester scored 28 runs, hit five triples, sported a .451 on-base percentage, while reaching base in all but five games in '05. On the hill, Riester went 1-1 with a mere 2.13 ERA over 25 innings pitched.
