Timberg Homer Lifts Midd. Over St. Michael's
April 26, 2006
Sam Timberg hit a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Middlebury to a 3-2 win over St. Michael's on Forbes Field. The Panthers return to action this weekend when they play a three-game NESCAC West set at Hamilton.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning after Ryan Armstrong reached on an error and stole second. Timberg later singled through the right side to plate Armstrong for the 1-0 lead.
Middlebury's Robert Palladino was cruising early, not allowing a hit until Greg McLaughlin singled to right with two outs in the fifth. The Purple Knights plated a pair in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead. The game appeared to be tied early in the inning, but a rocket from center by Dom DiDomenico picked off Paul Szwedo at the plate. Later in the inning, Kyle Hildebrand singled in Kevin Koscso before Kevin Foley scored when the ball got away from Nick Lefeber.
St. Michael's held the lead until the bottom of the eighth when Timberg's blast plated Alex Casnocha, who had singled with two outs.
Christian Hansen moved to 3-0 on the season with three innings of hitless relief. Dan O'Connor suffered the complete game loss, allowing two earned runs over eight innings.
Timberg, Casnocha and Lefeber ended the day 2-4 each, while Gabe Broughton had a pair of hits. Five different players had singles for St. Michael's.
